| Customer Reviews: Product defect needed correcting August 9, 2010 Paul R. Buettner (NE Minnesota) I purchased this bike directly from Amazon due to difficulties in obtaining a similar kind of bike in my size from our local small town bike shop. Also, Diamondback is a strong brand name. Unpacking & assembling proved no problem, despite the lack of any assembly instructions. On the first ride the bike worked fine initially. But very shortly the front derailleur became unworkable. The bike shop also was not able to get it working right, despite several attempts. Finally the problem was identified as a faulty cable guide, either the wrong part for this bike, or a defective part, or a part poorly installed, or all three. Fortunately the bike shop was willing to contact Diamondback for help, and Diamondback did send a replacement part at no cost. The replacement is indeed larger and heftier than the "original" cable guide, and it works naturally with the derailleur cables, so it seems to be the "right" part. Still, the hole in the frame to accept the attachment screw was stripped & needed modification in order to securely attach the new part. I still have doubts about how secure that attachment really is, but the bike works well now, and I believe any future problems in this area can be addressed effectively. I do love this bike, and the folks at the bike shop like it, too. I don't know how often Diamondback, or Amazon, encounters similar problems, but this bike was clearly poorly put together at the point of manufacture and could not seriously have been tested prior to being offered for sale. The result was that I had a bike I could not ride for almost 3 weeks, while a befuddled bike shop tried their best to figure out the problem. My bottom line here is that, yes, I like this bike, and have decided to keep it and make it work if more work should be necessary. That is partly just due to the hassle involved in returning an item of this size from our remote small town to Amazon. But I would NOT ever again purchase a bike from Amazon, or any other online seller, nor would I recommend anyone else do so. You need to ride and test a new bike before buying it. That means buying it from a dealer, who can immediately make adjustments and needed repairs, or provide a replacement. All this said, I perhaps was just "unlucky" in obtaining a rare defective product, by no fault of either Amazon or Diamondback. But I would not be willing to repeat this unfortunate bike-buying experience. Ask me in a month or two if the bike is still working well.
Buyer Beware - Bait and Switch August 4, 2010 Tim Suh (San Jose, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The written description for this bike is very specific and includes details on each component. Unfortunately what shows up is completely different from the description.
Starting with the color (description states "Bronze" but "Matt Grey" showed up) the actual product delivered is missing all of the key components.
"Tektro IO disc with 6-inch rotors" ended up being Tektro V-Brakes. "Spinner Odessa ACS 63mm travel with preload adjustÿ" ended up being a regular fork and so on...
Looks like somebody copied & pasted the specs from the 2009 Menona, but they end up shipping the 2010 which is completely different.
